Cheyenne Begay Nets 28, Leads Mesa to Spirited Victory at Phoenix College, 78-53

Phoenix, AZ – The Mesa Thunderbirds women’s basketball team took a high-spirited victory over the Phoenix College Bears Wednesday night, 78-53.

Mesa outplayed the Bears physically, mentally and emotionally as the T-Birds controlled the game throughout.

Scoring a career high in points was Cheyenne Begay (Navajo), knocking in 28 points on 10-14 shooting while connecting on 8-10 free-throws.  Begay also had five steals, four rebounds and three assists.

Three other T-Birds scored in double-figures as well as Diamond Fuller had 14 points, to go along with six steals.  Trae Frazier scored 11 points to go along with seven rebounds and Jacey Salabiye (Navajo) finished with a double-double, 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Overall on the night, Mesa shot 31-64 from the field while connecting on 12-15 free-throws.  One stat that will make the coaches happy is that they only committed two turnovers in the second half while having 17 total steals on the night.
