Chris Wondolowski (Kiowa Tribe) to Join Street Soccer USA National Soccer for Social Change Board

SAN JOSE, Calif. – San Jose Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski (Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma) will attend a press conference to sign a contract with Street Soccer USA to join the SSUSA National Soccer for Social Change Board. The press conference will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 12 from 6-7 p.m. at Uniqlo’s Union Square store, located at 111 Powell St. in San Francisco. In attendance will be city officials, SSUSA representatives, as well as SSUSA partners, Uniqlo USA and the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department.

“Street Soccer USA is delighted to announce it has reached agreement with Earthquakes forward Chris Wondolowski,” said SSUSA co-founder and Chief Operating Officer Rob Cann. “A local soccer legend and someone who has done so much for the Bay Area community, Chris is the perfect partner as we prepare for our upcoming National Cup in Civic Center.”

Street Soccer USA (SSUSA), a leading national sport for social change organization, runs programs in 16 U.S. cities, which use soccer to improve health, education and employment opportunities for at-risk youth and homeless young adults.

The second annual National Cup, which takes place August 15-16 in San Francisco’s Civic Center Plaza, is a four-a-side soccer tournament featuring 64 coed, amateur adult (16 and up) teams. Some of the teams participating include Zendesk, Google, SFPD, and the Bay Area Gooners.  In addition, teams from 16 of SSUSA’s social programs across the country will show off their skills and celebrate their achievements. Outstanding players are chosen at the end of the tournament to go on and represent Street Soccer USA at the Homeless World Cup in Amsterdam in September.
