Chris Wondolowski of the Kiowa Tribe and member of the San Jose Earthquakes soccer squad has been selected to the United States Soccer National Travel Team. Wondolowski and 22 other members of the USMNT will now compete in qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup. Head Coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s 23-man roster for the upcoming “five-match tournament,” will includes three friendlies matches and two World Cup qualifiers. Wondolowski has led in goals scored, and tallied 11 points in 12 matches this season for the Earthquakes. Named to the MLS Best XI, and awarded Castrol Index Player of the Year, Wondolowski has been a standout player on the Earthquakes as well as in the MLS. His position on the Men’s National Team reflects his outstanding performance this season.
Beginning on May 26, the U.S. Men’s National Team will first appear with their new roster in a Five-Game tournament against Scotland in Jacksonville, Fla. Klinsmann has designed a month-long series of games and training sessions to best represent what the team will be facing in a tournament format. Incorporating aspects of travel, nutrition, logistics and the rhythm of team movement, Klinsmann hopes to embody a performance driven environment.
The United States will start its run for the seventh-consecutive FIFA World Cup on June 8th at Raymond James Stadium, hosting Antigua & Barbuda. Below is the full USA Roster squad:
