CJ Briley (Choctaw) named MIAA Baseball Athlete of the Week and NCBWA Central Region Pitcher of the Week

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northeastern State pitcher CJ Briley claimed Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Baseball Athlete of the Week Honors Monday for a two-hit shutout of Fort Hays State and he was also named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Central Region Pitcher of the Week

Briley fanned nine Tiger batters in just his second start on the hill, threw 92 pitches, and had NSU’s second complete game of the season.  The junior didn’t allow an extra-base hit and only allowed one player into scoring position in a 12-0 series-clinching win for the RiverHawks.

The NCBWA Central Region committee consists of 15 voters with five representatives each from the GAC, MIAA and NSIC. Weekly regular season rankings began on February 13 and run through May 8. The Central Region of NCAA DII Baseball is comprised of three conferences – the Great American Conference, the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association and the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference – featuring 39 programs spanning nine states.
