CooXooEii Black (N. Arapaho) became the 22nd player in the history of Colorado College men’s basketball to score 1,000 career points, but his efforts were not enough to get the Tigers a victory at the University of Dallas.
The Crusaders connected on 12 of 29 shots from behind the arc and pulled away in the second half for a 70-49 victory at the Maher Center on Friday night.
Black reached the milestone 4:14 into the contest when he grabbed the rebound of a shot by senior guard Edmund Pendleton and worked himself open for a layup.
The senior forward finished with a game-high 23 points and ran his career total to 1,014, which leaves him only nine away from climbing to 19th place on the program’s career list.
A three-pointer by freshman Isaac Zachem on CC’s next possession gave the Tigers a 13-3 lead and they were able to play from in front until the opening minute of the second half.
Michael Wambsganss and Dustin Mathis dialed long distance on back-to-back possessions to give Dallas a four-point edge.
Freshman guard Aaron Acosta hit a triple to get Colorado College back to within a point, but the Crusaders connected on two more three-pointers during an 8-0 run as they began to pull away.
After Pendleton sank a pair of free throws to pull the Tigers to within 10 with 9:51 on the clock, UD answered with 10 in a row to take command of the game.
