Dajan Treder (Inupiaq/Unangan) Top Finisher for the No. 12 University of Providence women’s wrestling team at WCWA Wrestling Championships

MARIETTA, Ga. – The No. 12 University of Providence women’s wrestling program competed in the Women’s Collegiate Wrestling Association’s Wrestling Championships on Friday February 8 and Saturday, February 9.

Dajan Treder (Inupiaq/Unangan) was the Argos best finisher during the tournament, earning a fifth-place finish in the 123-pound weight class. Treder opened the tournament with a pair of 11-0 tech falls over Wayland Baptist’s Breanna Dudoit-Vasquez and Warner Pacific’s Kaitlyn Funai. In the quarterfinals, Treder matched up with No. 4 Life University’s No. 3 Sierra Powell, claiming a comeback 10-8 decision to advance to the semifinal match. Following a 7-0 deficit, Treder scored 10 straight points to take a three-point lead before Powell would claim one more point with four seconds remaining to put the bout at its final. However, Treder fell in her semifinal match to NCAA Division II Simon Fraser’s No. 3 Alex Hedrick, the eventual second-place finisher, by a 10-0 technical fall.
