GLENDALE, Ariz. – The Arizona Christian University women’s basketball team (3-1) dropped a turnover-plagued game to Benedictine University at Mesa (2-0) Friday evening, 72-58 inside the ACU Events Center.
Thoughts from Coach:
After the win, Head Coach Rusty Rogers said, “I am disappointed at the end result because I felt like it should’ve been a more competitive game. The things that we were concerned with came to fruition tonight. We just got real sloppy with the ball, both ball-handlers and the receivers, and we just didn’t match the physicality and got outplayed on the offensive boards. You can’t turn the ball over 35 times and then give up 20 offensive rebounds. That’s 55 possessions that we had to try to overcome – so if you think about that a little bit, it would’ve been a much more competitive game if we could’ve done those two things two things better.”
Game Details:
The loss is the first of the season for the Firestorm, who are now 4-3 all time against Benedictine Mesa. ACU totaled 35 turnovers and hit just five of its 26 three-point attempts. The Redhawks outrebounded the Firestorm, 43-39 and held ACU’s bench to just 13 points while scoring 30 themselves off the bench.
