FRISCO, Texas – After a big home win over the Lamar Cardinals on Saturday, women’s basketball senior Dominique Golightly (Kiowa Tribe) was named the Southland Conference Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office. ACU topped Lamar, 78-72, to improve to 11-1 on the season. Golightly earns her second player of the week honors this season, and the third for ACU after Lexie Ducat was named to the honor after the opening week.
Golightly’s Week by the Numbers
– Golightly scored a new career-high 27 points on an incredibly efficient 11-of-17 shooting.
– The senior connected on 3-of-6 from behind the arc, and hit both foul shot attempts.
– Golightly also led ACU in rebounding with eight, and added three assists as well.
ACU’s Week by the Numbers
– The Wildcats, led by Golightly, moved to 11-1 to open the season, their best start since the 1996-97 season.
– The win was significant for ACU as it moves to 3-0 in league play, and handing Lamar just its second league loss; Lamar had gone 34-2 in Southland play over the previous two seasons.
– ACU went 13-of-14 at the foul line compared to just 7-of-8 for Lamar, which proved to be key late in a game that featured 12 lead changes and four ties.
