Dominique Golightly (Kiowa) leads ACU with 20 against Corpus Saturday

ABILENE – Senior Dominique Golightly (Kiowa Tribe) tallied 20 points, Makayla Mabry added 11, but the Wildcat women’s basketball team suffered its first Southland Conference loss on Saturday to the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 70-58. The 58 points is the lowest total this season for ACU, as its eight-game winning streak is snapped in Moody Coliseum. The Wildcats (12-2, 4-1 SLC) shot just 36% from the floor in the game, their lowest percentage of the season.

Turning Point
– ACU led 3-1, but that would be the only lead of the game for the ‘Cats. The Wildcats trailed by as many as 12 in the first half, but got back to within four at halftime, 32-28. But in the third quarter, Corpus Christi continued to have every answer for ACU.
– The Wildcats could not get closer than six points in the third, and the Islanders shot 52% from the field in the second half to close out the game.

Key Plays
– Makayla Mabry continued to shoot well from distance, hitting each of her first two triples in the game. Mabry shot 3-of-5 for the game from deep, and is 10-of-17 in the last two games combined from the three-point line.
– Golightly hit a three-pointer with 2:31 left in the second quarter, guiding ACU to an 11-0 run that would pull the team within two points, 30-28. Golightly scored seven in a row in that stretch to give the Wildcats a chance at halftime.
– Alexes Bryant scored 20 points for Corpus Christi, including eight of the first nine points for the team. Bryant and Emma Young combined for 37 points Saturday.

Stat Pack
– Golightly’s 20-point effort is her fourth 20+ game this season, and her third in the last five games. The Chickasha, Okla. native finished with a team-best seven rebounds as well.
