CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Cascade Collegiate Conference has announced its WVT Laboratory Players of the Week and Eastern Oregon had a pair of student-athletes make the list.
Earning the weekly conference award was Jet Taylor and Phillip Malatare. Taylor was named the CCC Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, while Malatare grabbed the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week award.
Taylor was the anchor up front for the Mountaineers in their final weekend of regular season play. The senior put up nine blocks on the weekend as EOU went 2-0 to lock up the No. 2 seed in the CCC Tournament. Against Northwest, Taylor racked up seven blocks and had two come against Evergreen State College. She averaged 1.50 blocks per set and on offense she hit .333 and had eight kills in two wins.
For Malatare (Salish/Kootenai), he was the Mountaineers go-to option on offense in the team’s 69-57 road win at Whitman College. He scored an EOU career-high 29 points in the win on 11-14 shooting. He also did not miss a single free throw (6-6) and added six rebounds in the win. His efforts helped improve the Mountaineers record to 3-1 on the year.
