HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Both teams struggled to score early on, as the Crusaders held a 5-4 lead with 12:48 left in the first half.
- Holy Cross then went on a 15-2 run over the next seven minutes to take a 14-point lead (20-6), with senior guard Eric Green (Hualapi Tribe) scoring seven points during that span.
- The Crusader lead would stay in double figures for the remainder of the half, and would stand at 25-14 heading into the locker room.
- The Mountain Hawks opened the second half with an 8-3 spurt, closing the margin to six points (28-22) with 16:35 left to play.
- The Holy Cross lead would stay in single digits for the next nine minutes, and would shrink down to four points (44-40) with 7:23 on the clock.
- Green then hit a jumper, before freshman forward Karl Charles hit two straight baskets to put the Crusaders back up by 10 (50-40).
- Holy Cross later led 55-46 with 3:45 to go, when Lehigh scored eight straight points to make the score 55-54 with 1:21 to go.
- On each of the Crusaders next two possessions, Alexander was fouled and hit both ends of a one-and-one twice in a row, giving Holy Cross a 59-56 lead with 25.6 seconds remaining.
- The Mountain Hawks had one final possession, on which they attempted four three-pointers and grabbed three offensive rebounds, but they were unable to connect as the Crusaders held on for the victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Alexander hit seven of 10 field goals, six of seven three-pointers and six of eight free throws on the night, while tying his career high with 26 points.
- Green added a season-high 13 points and three rebounds, while junior guard Robert Champion chipped in with seven points, six assists and three rebounds.
- Holy Cross made 44.7 percent of its field goal attempts (21 of 47) and 37.9 percent of its three-pointers (11 of 29) on the night.
- Lehigh was only able to connect on 38.2 percent of its shots from the floor (21 of 55) and 30.8 percent of their attempts from beyond the arc (eight of 26).
- The Mountain Hawks were led by Tim Kempton with 20 points and six rebounds
