OU Softball Fall Schedule Released as Camp Opens; Destinie Lookout (Osage) Begins 1st Season with Sooners

NORMAN, Okla. – The Oklahoma softball team opened fall camp Thursday in advance of their eight-game fall schedule, which was also released Thursday by head coach Patty Gasso.

The fall schedule starts the weekend of Sept. 26-28 with the annual Fall Festival Tournament at Marita Hynes Field. Oklahoma opens play on Friday, Sept. 26, against Temple College at 8 p.m. OU then plays twice Saturday with games at 12:15 p.m. against Howard College and 4:45 p.m. against Seminole State. The weekend closes with a single contest versus St. Gregory on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Joining the Sooner squad this season will be Freshman (inf) Destinie Lookout (Osage Nation).  A former standout at West Moore High School Lookout was  named Native American Athlete of the Month by Vype Magazine, District 4’s District Player of the Year and all-state large west.  In  her senior season, she hit .489 with nine home runs, 44 runs batted in, 45 runs scored and 31 walks, 25 of which were intentional. Iin the circle, went 3-2 with a 2.50 earned run average and 11 strikeouts in 36.1 innings of work.

After nearly a three-week break, OU returns to the field on Friday, Oct. 17 as it hosts Butler Community College at 6 p.m.

Thursday, Oct. 23, the Sooners welcome North Texas in a single game at 7 p.m. During the 2014 season, OU defeated the Mean Green, 3-0, on April 23 behind a one-hit shutout from then-sophomore Kelsey Stevens.

The fall season concludes on Saturday, Nov. 1, when Oklahoma travels to Arkansas to face the Razorbacks in a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. Last season, OU used a six-run first inning to cruise to a 10-2, five-inning win at Bogle Park.

Fresh off a fourth straight trip to the Women’s College World Series, Oklahoma returns 13 players from last year’s squad, including All-Americans Lauren Chamberlain and Shelby Pendley, as well as Stevens, who tied for the national lead in wins with 38.
