Former Choctaw Central Teammates go head-to-head in College Conference Matchup

The Meridian Community College Lady Eagles came into the game Thursday night on a two game losing streak. The Lady Eagles went down to the final seconds to pull out the win and break the two game skid. The Lady Eagles picked up the thrilling win against Copiah-Lincoln Community College by the score of 74-71.

The visiting Lady Wolves raced out to a fast start leading 18-11 with 3 minutes left in the 1st quarter. The Lady Eagles were able to fight back and cut it to a 23-21 deficit at the end of the 1st.

The Lady Eagles came out on fire to start the 2nd quarter. A three pointer from Jada Arrington got the scoring started and gave the Lady Eagles their first lead of the night. An 8-0 run stretched it to a 29-23 Lady Eagles’ lead. The visitors would respond and cut it back to a three point game before the Lady Eagles went on another scoring run. Heading into the locker room, the Lady Eagles held a 40-34 lead.

Much like the rest of the game, the 3rd quarter was a back and forth quarter. The Lady Eagles were able to work it back to a ten point lead before the Lady Wolves tied it back up with 1 minute left in the quarter. With time ticking off the clock, the visitors hit a 3 pointer to end the 3rd and take the 58-55 lead.

The 4th quarter continued the thrilling back and forth action. The Lady Wolves were able to get a six point lead early in the quarter, but the Lady Eagles fought back to regain the lead. Throughout the final five minutes, both teams traded baskets and free throws with neither team being able to pull away. Clinging to a one point lead with 19 seconds left, Mariah Collins calmly sank two free throws to give the Lady Eagles the three point lead, 74-71. The Lady Eagles came up clutch on the defensive end and forced multiple errant shots to hold on to the win.

LaChrisha Williams (MS Choctaw) was the leading scorer for the night with 14 points. Sarah Allen (MS Choctaw) added 12 points, while LaTonya Adams and DaKeyia Cooley added 11.

On the other side, Darien Tubby (MS Choctaw) once again led Co-Lin in assists with eight.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improve to 9-6 on the season. The Lady Eagles will be back in action Monday, January 28 as they host Pearl River Community College. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Graham Gymnasium.
