SPOKANE, Wash. – Freshman Zalissa Sanfo pulled down 20 rebounds to tie Whitworth’s program record, Kimberly Dewey led the Pirates with 25 points, and Whitworth snapped a six-game skid beating Schreiner 73-51 on Saturday in Walla Walla.

Sanfo tied Sarah Shogren’s single-game rebound record set in 2003 and added 12 points in the process to record the first double-double of her young career. Whitworth has now seen double-doubles in back-to-back games after Dewey recorded her first of the season on Friday against Colorado College.

Mya Edwards was the third Pirate in double figures with 11 points and nine rebounds to help Whitworth (2-6 overall, 0-2 NWC) snap their losing streak. Their last win was also in Walla Walla over Sul Ross St. in the opener.

Whitworth was dominant from the tip, putting together a 17-0 run in the opening minutes. Seven different scorers fueled a dominant opening frame that gave Whitworth a 29-3 lead. The Pirates buried five first quarter threes at a 70% clip to put the game out of reach early.

The Mountaineers cut the deficit to 49-34 late in the third but the Pirates responded with a trio of three pointers early in the fourth. Dewey knocked down a pair of threes before Driggs stepped up with one of her own to cap a 9-0 run that put the Pirates up 67-43.

Whitworth was 43.3% from behind the arc while outrebounding Schreiner 51-29 to set up 17 second chance points.
