Gabby Barker (Shoshone-Paiute) has been tabbed as the nation’s No. 8 women’s collegiate golfer in the latest GolfWeek rankings

Sophomore Gabby Barker (Shoshone/Paiute) has been tabbed as the nation’s No. 8 women’s collegiate golfer in the latest GolfWeek rankings released on October, 8.

The Caldwell, Idaho native has been on a tear to begin the 2015-16 NCAA Golf season. In her last tournament, Barker fired a three round 211 (-5) to claim co-champion honors at the Jim West Challenge. Barker’s second round score of 68 was just one stroke back of her career low 67 shot at last year’s Web.com Intercollegiate.

The GolfWeek/Sagarin rating system is based on a mathematical formula that uses a player’s won-lost-tied record against other players when they play on the same course on the same day, and the stroke differential between those players, then links all players to one another based on common opponents.

Based on the criteria for the rankings, Barker has been awarded a 69.44 rating with a schedule rank of 73.93 placing her at No. 8 on the national rankings. She is currently the highest ranked player in the Big 12, followed by No. 13 Chih-Min Chen of Oklahoma State.
