Hailey Oskey (Oneida) Leads Green Bay with 10 Points in Exhibition Win Over Michigan Tech

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The first look at the Green Bay women’s basketball team in 2019-20 proved to be a promising one as the Phoenix worked to a 54-41 victory over Michigan Tech on Thursday night.

Green Bay closed the first quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 13-12 advantage and never looked back. After a triple from redshirt senior Frankie Wurtz and back-to-back layups from sophomore Hailey Oskey (Oneida), GB’s run improved to 15-0 before the Huskies were able to end their scoring drought.

The Phoenix defense has made a habit of frustrating opposing offenses year after year, and if Thursday night’s second quarter was any indication – this will be the case once again in 2019-20.

Green Bay allowed Michigan Tech only five points in the second quarter while adding 25 to its own total, ultimately leading things 38-17 at the half.

Green Bay closed its first action of the 2019-20 campaign with a 54-41 win and held its opposition to less than 30% from the field.

Oskey impressed in the first half and finished a perfect 3-for-3 from the field and 4-for-4 from the line to total 10 points as the teams headed to the locker room.

Green Bay dominated the action inside on both ends of the floor, outscoring the Huskies 34-8 in the paint.

Karly Murphy joined Oskey in double figures on the evening, posting 10 points on a 4-of-8 effort from the field in 17 minutes.

Green Bay will close out its exhibition season on Wednesday, Oct. 30 when the Phoenix plays host to UW-Oshkosh with tip-off slated for 7 p.m. The Phoenix opens the regular season on the road this season, traveling to Central Michigan on Nov. 6.
