Hailey Oskey’s (Oneida) Season-High of 26 points Closes out Green Bay’s Regular Season with Win over Cleveland State

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Green Bay women’s basketball team closed out the regular season with an impressive 66-64 win at Cleveland State behind a season-high 26 points from Hailey Oskey (Oneida).

Apart from Oskey, the Phoenix (19-6, 15-4) was led by Cassie Schiltz’s 13 points and two steals and Meghan Pingel’s eight points.

The Green Bay defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday’s game, forcing 19 Cleveland State turnovers while only committing 11 of their own. Those takeaways turned into 25 points on the offensive end of the floor. Oskey’s five steals led the way individually for the Phoenix.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay started the game on fire, hitting three straight threes and another bucket from Oskey to take an early 11-0 lead with 6:00 left in the first quarter. The Phoenix then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 17-10 advantage.

Cleveland State chipped into the Phoenix lead, eventually bringing the lead to just one with 55 seconds to go. GB responded with an Oskey bucket with four seconds remaining to take a 29-26 lead heading into the break. Green Bay dominated in the paint, scoring eight of its 12 points close to the basket.

Green Bay continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a three from Schiltz, to expand its lead further to 38-28 with 7:33 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Phoenix added one point to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 49-38 edge. Green Bay knocked down four three-pointers in the quarter to score 12 of its 20 total points.

Green Bay kept its lead intact before going on an 8-1 run, finished off by Oskey’s jumper, to grow the lead to 59-42 with 6:41 to go in the contest. However, Cleveland State would not go away, rattling off a 13-0 run to make it four-point game with just over two minutes to go. Despite a continuing barrage of Viking threes, the Phoenix iced the game thanks to clutch free throws from Maddy Schreiber and Oskey.
