By Reid Williams

Haskell Women 77-61
The Haskell Women’s Basketball team would host the front end of a double header with York College Saturday night in Coffin Complex. The Lady Indians came into the game looking to pick up their second win in a row, and put two uncharacteristic losses from the previous week far behind them.

Five minutes into the first quarter, the Indians would hold a 10-7 advantage. As the first quarter continued, both teams would keep pace with the other. Heading into the second quarter the score would be 18-16 in favor of York College. The back and forth play would keep up through the four minute mark of the second quarter, with York only having a one point lead.  In the last minutes before the half, York College would extend their lead to seven, walking into the half up 42-35.

At the half, HINU was able to regain focus and never look back. Haskell would erase the halftime deficit leading 47-44 at the five minute mark of the third quarter. The turnovers would continue to stack up for York, and Haskell would cruise to a 77-61 victory.

Both teams will face off again on February 4th at York College before Haskell travels to Central Christian College on February 6th.

Haskell Men 90-79
Haskell’s Men’s Basketball team would close out Saturday night’s double header against York College at Coffin Complex. The Indians were looking to put an end to a five game losing streak, and gain some positive momentum to carry them through the few remaining games this season.

Haskell would catch fire in the first half and, by the 6:58 mark, would have an 8 point lead. HINU would shoot an impressive 82% in the first half from the field, and by the half the Indians led 53-41.

In the second half, York would cut Haskell’s lead to 5 points with only 2:42 left in the game, but the Indians would spend the last two minutes of the game at the free throw line coasting to a 90-79 victory.

Duelle Gore would lead Haskell with 20 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists. Wilber Everett would score 20 points, and Ralston Moore would add another 17 points.

Haskell improves to 5-16 on the year and will play York College again on February 4th. After that, HINU will travel to Central Christian College, looking to pick up a win on February 6th.
