(Lawrence, Kansas) – The Haskell Indian Nations University (RV) women’s basketball team improved to 12 wins on the season after handing the McPherson Bulldogs a 82-59 loss at Coffin Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
Haskell was led by freshman Kasey Rice (Pawnee), who had a game high 15 points. She was one of six other players from the Lady Indians to score in double figures, which included Paige Dale (12), Sierra Penn and Cailey Lujan (11 points apiece), Janee Bates and Cherelle Speen (10 points apiece). The Indians only have 3 losses so far to NAIA Top 10 ranked teams.
The Indians were lights out from the floor from the very start, as they jumped out to a 29-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, shooting 49% from the floor in the period. They started the game on a 16-0 run, and led the game from start to finish. The Bulldogs picked it up a bit, but could not close the gap.
Haskell led as much as 33 points at one point but McPherson would outscore the Indians in the final quarter as most of the reserve players finished out the game for the Indians.
Turnovers were a big problem for McPherson. They had 31 total, mostly because of the Indian’s tenacious defense.
Next up for Haskell is a short holiday break before they return to action on December 29th and 30th where they will travel to Iowa to participate in the Morningside College Classic against the host and Briar Cliff University.
In my opinion Kaycee Rice number one player
Great. How are the Navajo players doing thus far?
