Haskell Indian Nations University Women’s Basketball Ranked 2nd in First A.I.I. Conference Poll of the Season

(Lawrence, Kansas) – The Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball team were ranked 2nd in the first official Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) conference poll of the season it was announced by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) office today.

Haskell is off to another good start to the season (despite some early season injuries to some key players) with an (8-2) record that included three wins over NAIA Top 15 pre-season ranked opponents with two of those wins on the road.

The Indians are currently led by JUCO transfer Tyler Sumpter (Pyramid Lake Paiute) who is averaging 14 points per game and Kortney Meat (Cheyenne/Arapaho) who is not to far behind Sumpter at 13.3 points per game. Senior Arnetia Begay (Navajo) is also averaging in the double-digit scoring at 11 points per game.

 

Currently the Lady Indians rank number 5 in (NAIA) Division II in total steals at (122) and they also rank number 8 in Division II in Total 3-Pt FG Made at (78).

 

Haskell is a first year member to the A.I.I. after being a long-time member of the Midland Collegiate Athletic Conference (MCAC) which folded earlier this year. The Association of Independent Institutions (A.I.I.) was incorporated in July 2008 in the state of Missouri and currently serves 11 teams in the women’s NAIA Division II category.
