Haskell Indian Nations University Women’s Volleyball Open 2018 Season with (3-2) Win over Stephens College

FINAL STATS

(Lawrence, Kansas) – After weeks of preparation, workouts and practicing against each other, the Haskell Indian Nations University women’s volleyball opened their 2018 campaign with a (3-2) victory over the Stephens College Stars out of Missouri on Saturday afternoon in Tony Coffin Sports Complex.

Haskell would drop a close opening set (22-25),  but found more rhythm in the second set and took a big win (25-15) over the Stars. Both teams would trade the next two setup a fifth and final game where the Lady Indians would easily take the match (15-8) behind big hits and serves from many of the newcomers from the team.

Game Highlights:

Alliyah Richards would lead Haskell with 19 kills and 5 blocks and nearly a double-double with 9 digs as well. Not too far behind her was Cailey Lujan, who was the only other double-digit kill leader on the team with 12. She would lead the team with 4 service aces and added 16 digs.

Some standout freshman in the match for Haskell included Jasmine Boyd who led both teams with 24 digs in the libero position and Aline Barton who had 29 attempts at the service line to keep Haskell offense flowing.

Next up for Haskell will be another home match on August 29th at 7:00 PM CST against Bethany College.
