(Lawrence, Kansas) – The Haskell Indian Nations University women’s volleyball team defeated Southwestern College over the weekend in 5 sets (25-21, 24-14, 16-25, 25-23, 15-9) to pick up their fourth win of the season and first at home.
Haskell jumped out early on Southwestern to take an early 2-0 set lead but the Builders pushed pack over the next two sets to force a fifth set in which Haskell took control of early and never looked back.
The Indians were led by Mikeya Sheppard and Tressa Jim, who both had 11 kills and 12 digs each in the match. Also reaching double digit kills category was Justine Butterfield, who led the team with 14 points as well.
Setter Kailey Becenti had 42 assists and 10 digs on the afternoon. Libero Nakooma Pelt had a game-high of 26 digs.
Haskell will have a few days off before returning to the court this week, as they welcome Cottey College on Thursday, September 21st, Baptist Bible College on Friday, September 22nnd, and Missouri Baptist on Saturday, September 23rd.
