(Lincoln, Illinois) – The Haskell Indian Nations University women’s volleyball team had four players pick up Association of Independent Institutions Conference awards yesterday evening ahead of the A.I.I. Conference volleyball tournament where Haskell is one of four teams competing.
Leading the way for the Lady Indians was Sophia Honahni (Hopi/Navajo) whoearned Libero of the Year honors, First Team All-Conference and was named to the NAIA Champions of Character Team.
Honahni is averaging 5.18 digs per set and has tallied 456 digs so far this season. She has played in 26 matches and helped the Indians’ defense to average 18.01 digs per set.
Also earning First Team All-Conference and NAIA Champions of Character was Alliyah Richards (Oglala/Ute) who ranks number 13 in the NAIA in Kills per Game at (4.140)
and ranks number 43 in Total Kills at (385). This is her third year in a row to pick up post-season awards. She was also named an A.I.I. volleyball player of the week this season as well.
Cailey Lujan (Navajo) was named to the Second Team All-Conference as was Amber Whitehair (Navajo). Lujan has 217 kills on the season so far and setter Whitehair (who joined the team mid-season) has dished 389 assists so far as well.
