Haskell Women’s Basketball Pick Up More Votes in NAIA Division II Week 2 Poll

(Kansas City, MO) – The Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball program picked up a few more votes and spots  in the second poll of the season released today by the NAIA.

In the first poll of the season a last week, the Lady Indians received (34) votes for the poll, making it the first time the program had received votes in the opening poll of the season. Despite not playing an official game  in the past week, the Lady Indians picked up (43) votes in this weeks poll to move into the 29th spot of teams receiving votes.

Haskell did not play an official game last week but they did manage to play an exhibition game with  NCAA Division II opponent Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri. After an 11 day layoff, due to the holiday break, the Indians came out a little rusty against NCAA school and ultimately came up short at the end by a final score of 54-60 in a closely contested game.

According to NAIA official statistics, Haskell currently is averaging 73.55 points per game while holding opponents to 61.27 ppg. As a team the Lady Indians rank number 7 in the nation in total steals (143) eleven games into the season. The Indians also rank number 11 in steals per game (13).

Leading those steals for Haskell is Jenine Coriz (Cochiti Pueblo) who ranks number 3 nationally in total steals (44) and she ranks number 7 in steals per game at (4)pg. Jenine is also Haskell’s leading scorer at 15.5 points per game while Keli Warrior leads the team in rebounding at (7.7) per game. Keli is also the second leading scorer on the squad, currently averaging (12) ppg.

Haskell will return to action this weekend on  Saturday, December 13th at 2:00 PM CST when they host William Penn University at Coffin Sports Complex. The Haskell men’s game will follow the women’s game.
