RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Senior Isaiah Thompson (San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians) maintained his customary spot as UC Irvine’s top finisher at the 36th UC Riverside Invitational Saturday morning.
Thompson led the ‘Eaters with a 14th-place finish overall (seventh in the Division I field) with a time of 24:28.81 over 8,000 meters at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course. There were a total of 392 runners across all divisions in the race.
Izzak Mireles was 20th overall in 24:39.38, Branden Randall placed 34th in 24:57.65, Hector Garcia 50th in 25:13.72 and Samuel Ayala was 77th in 25:31.41.
Nolan Del Valle finished 85th with a time of 25:36.32, Ashton Garcia was 95th in 25:40.50, Alex Hascall 101st in 25:43.28, David Aguilar 109th (25:48.56), Eric Lawver 132nd (26:03.27) and Andrew Graciano placed 198th in 26:46.14.
Gilbert Kigen of Central Arizona was the overall winner in 23:37.84.
Cal Poly was the team champion with 62 points and UCI was seventh overall with 180 (fourth in D-I scoring with 81 points).
The ‘Eaters return to action Oct. 1 at the Mustang Challenge in Santa Clarita.
