(Gresham, OR) – Everett Community College freshman Jakobe Ford (Blackfeet/Assiniboine)out of Shadle Park HS in Spokane, WA will be going after something this week that has never been accomplished in the history of Northwest Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field. The Triple Crown. Currently Ford sits atop the NWAC marks this season in the High Jump (7’0 1/4″) the Long Jump (24′ 4 1/2″) and the Triple Jump (49′ 8 1/4″).
Earlier this season Jakobe broke the ECC All-Time High Jump record with his 7’0 1/4″ mark. But that is not even his personal record. This winter he competed unnattached at an indoor track meet and jumped 7’4″. That is currently in the top 3 in the nation out of all collegiate jumpers including NCAA Division I.
His triple jump mark of 49′ 8 1/4″ is currently 2nd all time at EvCC and his long jump mark of 24’4 1/2″ is behind only EvCC legend Terry Metcalf’s mark of 25’10” which just so happens to be the All Time NWAC record. The NWAC Championships will be this May 21-22 at Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, OR.
Live Results will be posted on http://www.nwacsports.org/trackandfield/championship/ A few of the most elite athletes in the history of the NWAC have won two of the three jumping events, but never all three. The last to win two was back in 2009, and the last Everett Community College Athlete to win two was Terry Metcalf winning the high jump and triple jump in 1970 and 1971.
