(Albuquerque, NM) – Jerico Cleveland (Confederate Tribes of the Colville Reservation) has been selected to compete for USA Track and Field, representing the U.S.A. team at the North America, Central America and Caribbean championships, March 4 in Boca Raton, Fla.
Cleveland qualified by placing 10th at the USATF nationals in Bend, Ore., when he ran with the all-native Wings of American team who placed 1st overall as a team.
“The course (in Oregon) was pretty brutal,” said Cleveland, who was one of the state’s (NM) top prep runners last fall. “It was really slippery. Everyone on (our) team fell at least twice. I fell twice myself.” he told the The Albuquerque Journal
“I just want to finish strong and put down a solid time,” he said. Adams State and Northern Arizona are among the schools Cleveland is thinking about attending after he finishes his prep career with the Volanao Vista Hawks in the spring of 2018.
