Las Vegas, NM — The New Mexico Highlands Cowgirls dropped a pair of RMAC games over the weekend as they fell to Regis 71-59 and Colorado Christian 60-46, at the Wilson Complex.
AGAINST REGIS: The Cowgirls started the game off slow as Regis jumped out to an early 21-10 after the first quarter. The Rangers continued their offensive attack by pushing their lead to as much as 25 in the second quarter, before taking a 45-45 lead at the break.
Much like the second quarter, the Rangers were able to extend their lead to as much as 28 with 8 minutes left in the third, but the Cowgirls never gave up. At this point, the Cowgirls switched to a 2-3 zone defensively, which started to give Regis some problems by making them miss shots and forcing turnovers. Some help from Jordyn Lewis (Navajo) and Maiah Rivas on the offensive side would bring the Cowgirls within 19 points by the end of the third quarter.
The Cowgirls would carry the momentum in to the fourth quarter by cutting the lead down to as small as 10 points but, would run out of time as the Rangers would go on to win 71-59.
Jordyn Lewis finished the night with 19 points off 5-16 shooting from the field and also added 4 assists, 3 steals and 2 rebounds. Ashley Antone (Navajo) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds while Maiah Rivas tallied 9 points and Kaitlyn Holl scored 6 points and 4 rebounds.
