A record number of student athletes were named to the University of Louisville’s Athletic Directors Honor Roll for the spring of 2014. Indian Country’s own Jude Schimmel (Umatilla) was named a member to this prestigous list within the athletics department. In the 2013 NCAA Final Four tournament, Jude was named the recipeient of the Elite 89 award from the NCAA which honors the student-athlete with the highest GPA in the Final Four tournament for men and women.
Student-athletes must post a 3.0 GPA or higher for the semester. This past spring, 453 student-athletes, managers and spirit groups plus another 41 members of the pep band for a total of 494 were named to the honor roll, which set a new school record.
“I am pleased and proud of our young student-athletes who did a great job in the classroom,” said associate athletic director for academics, Marvin Mitchell. “I am impressed by the consistency with which we keep improving in Tom Jurich’s tenure here.”
