Kelsey Barnwell (Cherokee Nation) Scores 16 as #1 LADY HORNETS WIN TOP 25 MATCH UP AT #22 MO. SOUTHERN

December 20, 2014-In a top 25 battle freshman Addie Lackey scored a career high 21 points to lead the top ranked Emporia State Lady Hornets to a 75-53 win over #22 Missouri Southern on Saturday afternoon in Joplin, Mo.

The Lady Hornets jumped out to an 18-11 lead only to see the Lions come back and take a 19-18 lead with 8:07 left in the half.  An 8-0 run gave Emporia State a 26-19 lead with 2:21 left in the half. The Lady Hornet would take a 28-22 lead into the break.

It was still a six point lead with 17:02 left in the game when the Lady Hornets went on a 10-0 run to take a 44-28 lead with 14:09 remaining.  Emporia State would maintain a lead between 12 and 22 points the remainder of the game.

Lackey was six of eight from the field and four of five from behind the three-point line for her career high 21 points.  She was joined in double figures by Kelsey Barnwell (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma) with 16 points and Merissa Quick with 12 points.  Kathryn Flott had a team high ten rebounds while Quick led the Lady Hornets with four assists and three blocked shots.

Emporia State will go to the NCAA Division II Life in the Balance break with a 10-0 record, the second straight year the Lady Hornets have started out at least 10-0.  The next action for Emporia State will be on Jan. 3, 2015 against Lincoln.  Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. from Slaymaker Court in White Auditorium.
