2016 National Pitcher of the Year Watch List
LUBBOCK, Texas – University of South Alabama baseball right-hander Kevin Hill (Muscogee Creek Nation) was named to the latest 2016 National Pitcher of the Year watch list, as announced by the National College Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday.
Hill, the lone Sun Belt Conference representative on the list, leads the league in strikeouts (107) and innings pitched (96.2), ranks tied for first in wins (8), ranks second in opposing batting average (.201) and fourth in ERA (2.23). His 107 strikeouts ranks tied for third in the nation, while his four complete games ranks 15th nationally.
The award is sponsored by Diamond, and will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock as part of the annual Night of Champions event.
Hill was named to the Midseason Golden Spikes Award watch list last month, along with being selected to the initial 2016 National Pitcher of the Year watch list. The Oklahoma City, Okla., native ranks fourth in career strikeouts (307) at South Alabama. He will make his final career start at Stanky Field in Friday’s series opener against Louisiana-Lafayette.
Hill has made 13 starts this year, and is 8-1 with a 2.23 ERA with 107 strikeouts against 24 walks in 96 2/3 innings while recording four complete games. In eight Sun Belt starts, Hill is 6-0 with a 1.87 ERA and 64 strikeouts against 15 walks in 67 1/3 innings pitched this season and has also recorded three complete games and combined for one shutout.
