ALAMOSA, Colo. – The Adams State women’s basketball team capitalized on every opportunity to establish a lead against Colorado Christian University in Friday evening’s Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) game. This dominant performance resulted in a well-deserved 87-74 victory for the Grizzlies over CCU.
With the win, the Grizzlies snapped a three-game losing streak and improved to 12-6 overall and 7-3 in the RMAC.
The first quarter saw Christabel Longe with solid defensive skills, securing rebounds for ASU. The scoreboard reflected the competitive spirit, with both teams making layups and three-pointers jumping out to a 22-13 lead.
In the second quarter, the team showed great resilience on both offense and defense. Kiiyani Anitielu’s excellent driving layup, assisted by Nageak, demonstrated ASU’s determination and skill on the court.
The game became more intense after an Elaina Watson steal, but a turnover on the following play made it even more nerve-wracking. However, Caroline Knothe’s successful layup, assisted by Angelline Nageak, ultimately contributed crucial points to ASU’s 37-28 halftime lead.
In the third quarter, Harmanie Dominguez’s defensive prowess greatly enhanced the Grizzlies’ performance with her remarkable steals and rebounds. A successful layup by Kayla Harris and Dominguez’s joint efforts were instrumental in putting the game away in the second half.
Throughout the game, both teams made strategic substitutions to gain an advantage, resulting in a closely contested match. During the final quarter neither team pulled but the Grizzlies wrapped up the game with a 13-point lead and clinched their victory by scoring some successful free throws, which resulted in a final score of 87-74.
Anitielu was the leading scorer for the Grizzlies with 21 points.
