Kyarrah Grant (Navajo/MBCI) Drops 14 Points for NSU Sharks; Her sister Kyannah added 11 Points

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLA. – Nova Southeastern Women’s Basketball suffered its first loss of the season in an SSC showdown with Eckerd. The Sharks were led by Madison Frederick who finished with 31 points, her third 30-point outing of the season. 

First Half- Eckerd put the first points on the board, but Hailey Conley answered with a layup of her own. The Tritons held an 8-point lead towards the end of the first quarter but three-pointers from Frederick and Mackenzie Steele cut Eckerd’s lead to 4 heading into the second quarter. Kyannah Grant got it started for NSU, scoring a fastbreak layup, set up by a beautiful outlet pass from Kyarrah Grant. Frederick sparked a brief 6-0 run, knocking down three free throws and a three-pointer, giving NSU a 7-point lead. The Sharks held on to the lead the rest of the way, going into the half up one.  

Second Half- Eckerd scored a quick nine points to start the quarter but three free throws from Frederick stopped the Triton’s run. At the midway point of the quarter, Conley got a steal that led to a layup by Kyannah Grant on the other end, bringing the Sharks within two. With just under 10 seconds left in the quarter, Frederick made a step-back jumper at the buzzer to give the Sharks a 56-54 lead heading into the final frame. The fourth quarter was a back-and-forth battle between both teams. With 58 seconds remaining in the quarter, Kyarrah Grant hit a three-pointer in the corner to give the Sharks a five-point lead, their biggest lead of the half. As the game began to wind down, the Tritons were able to score an and-one layup to tie the game at 75 a piece. The Sharks were unable to get a shot off at the end of regulation, which sent the game to overtime. Eckerd got out to a fast start in overtime, giving themselves a 7-point lead with two minutes to play. A corner three by Kyarrah Grant brought the Sharks within four but it wasn’t enough, Nova Southeastern drops this SSC matchup against Eckerd 83-93.
