LUBBOCK, Texas — Oklahoma State’s women’s basketball team knocked off Texas Tech, 47-44, in its final road game of the season on Saturday in front of 3,284 fans inside United Supermarkets Arena.
The win was OSU’s fifth in a row over the Lady Raiders and moved them to 19-9 overall and 9-8 in Big 12 play. Tech fell to 15-14 and 5-12.
Both teams struggled to get going offensively, combining to hit just 15 of their first 63 field-goal attempts. For the game, OSU shot 26 percent, while Tech was held to a 25 percent success rate from the floor.
The Cowgirls limited the Lady Raiders to a 1-of-9 start and neither team cracked double figures until a Liz Donohoe layup for OSU at the 9:32 mark.
The Cowgirls, who hit four of their 9 3-point attempts in the period, got back-to-back treys from Lakota Beatty (Caddo/Lakota/GrosVentre) and Roshunda Johnson to jump in front 17-9.
OSU held Tech to just one field goal over the final 8:13 of the first half until Minta Spears drilled a 3-pointer with one second left to pull with four at 22-18 at the break.
Tech moved in front for the first time in the second half with a 7-0 run to lead 29-26 with 16 minutes to go in the contest. OSU answered with a 6-0 run of its own to regain the lead.
Beatty knocked down a pair of free throws with 6:44 to go to extend the margin to eight, but the Cowgirls could not push the margin to double digits.
A 3-pointer from Rayven Brooks hit a 3-pointer with five seconds left to draw Tech within three at 47-44.
After a pair of missed free throws from OSU, the Lady Raiders’ desperation three to tie the game went wayward.
Brittney Martin, who scored 12 points in the second half, finished with a game-high 16 points.
The Cowgirls will close out the regular season on Monday when they host Oklahoma at 7 p.m.
