Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux) has 11 Kills for Tenth Ranked Toreros in 3-0 Sweep of UC Santa Barbara

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The 10th-ranked University of San Diego women’s volleyball team cruised its way to a sweep of the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos Saturday evening in in the final match of the USD/SDSU Invitational, inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

With the 25-19, 25-18, 25-18 win, the Toreros improve to 8-2 overall, have now won seven consecutive matches, and remain perfect at home with a 6-0 record. With the loss, the Gauchos fall to 7-4 overall.

Senior middle hitter Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux), who had 11 kills, while hitting .444 with three blocks, one solo, paced USD’s offense. Lisa Kramer also had a great match, as she recorded a match-best 12 kills, while hitting .226, and she also recorded three blocks, two solo. Jayden Kennedy was the final Torero in double digit kills, as she had 10, while hitting .450 with one block and one dig. Kristen Gengenbacher recorded 22 assists, and had eight digs, while Hunter Jenningschipped in with nine digs.

As a team, USD hit for a .346 clip, while the Gauchos hit .156. USD recorded 39 digs, while Santa Barbara had 36. San Diego recorded 7.0 blocks, to UCSB’s 9.0.

For the Gauchos, Lindsey Rubbins led the way with 10 kills, while Chanel Hoffman chipped in with nine kills. Emilia Petrachi led all players with 16 digs, while Rubbins had 11 digs to post a double-double.

San Diego will return to action on Thursday, as they open West Coast Conference play with a 7 p.m. match against the University of San Francisco inside the JCP.
