BOULDER, Colo. — The University of San Diego women’s volleyball team dropped its first contest of the season, a 3-0 setback to No. 9 Florida State University Sunday evening at the Omni Hotels Classic hosted by the University of Colorado.
With the 25-16, 25-21, 25-20 loss, the Toreros fall to 2-1 overall, while the Seminoles improve to 2-1 overall.
Lisa Kramer paced the USD offense, recording 10 kills, while both Lauren Schad (Cheyenne River Sioux) and Canace Finley chipped in with eight kills apiece. Hunter Jennings led the USD defense with 16 digs, while Kristen Gengenbaucher (18 assists) and Caila Stapleton (15 assists) helped steer the Torero offense to a .092 team attack percentage.
Mercedes Vaughn led all players with 12 kills for FSU, while hitting for a .391 clip. Cecilie Woie led the match with 20 digs, while Sarah Burrington had a match-best eight blocks. As a team, the Seminoles hit for a .226 clip, and out blocked USD 13-6.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday, as they return to the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion for a 7 p.m. non-conference match against Oregon State University. This will be the opening match of the USD Tournament.
