OMAHA, Neb. – Lexus Redthunder of Sisseton, S.D., is going to be a Flame in the fall.
College of Saint Mary Basketball Coach Kirk Walker is pleased to announce the recent signing of Redthunder to continue her education and basketball career with the Flames. The daughter of David Redthunder and Mickey Divine is a 6-3 senior forward at Sisseton High School.
“We are really excited to have Lexus join the Flames next year,” Walker said. “At 6-3 she can give us an inside defensive pressure we haven’t had. She is a good interior passer, can face up at 15′ and runs the floor well.
“We feel she has the ability to develop into a stretch 4 who can shoot it from the perimeter and play with her back to the basket. She is a great communicator on the floor and will be a great addition in helping to build the standards and develop the identity we want to have as a team on and off the floor.”
At Sisseton High School, Redthunder has played basketball and volleyball. Among her many honors she has been been named Northeast Girls Basketball All-Conference, Lakota Nation Invitational all-tournament, had two 20 point, 20 rebound games last season and had a triple double (12 points, 12 rebounds, 10 blocks) during her junior year. She has also played AAU basketball with Sacred Hoops All-Native team.
Redthunder says her favorite sports hero is Breanna Stewart and that outside of basketball she also enjoys binge watching YouTube videos, lifting and handing out with her best friend.
She plans to purse occupational therapy at College of Saint Mary.
“When I came to visit CSM I really loved the location,” Redthunder said. “I love how the campus is its own cozy community within such a big city. During my visit I had the opportunity to meet a few of my future teammates and they were so welcoming and friendly.
“Overall, I can see myself succeeding and thriving not only on the hardwood, but also in CSM’s unique occupational therapy program. I’m very excited to be a Flame these next years and for the opportunities to come.”
