LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women’s basketball team earned the No. 3 seed in the 2015 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship and faces No. 14-seed BYU in its initial game on Saturday on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. in Tampa, Fla.
The Cardinals are advancing to their 18th NCAA Tournament in school history, their fifth straight and seventh under head coach Jeff Walz. Louisville owns a 22-17 all-time mark in the NCAA Tournament, boasting an 18-6 record under Walz. Louisville has reached the Sweet 16 five times and advanced to the NCAA Final Four twice in the last six tournament appearances.
Louisville has produced a 25-6 record in its inaugural season in the Atlantic Coast Conference, compiling a 12-4 mark in the league for third in the standings. It’s the fifth-consecutive season the program has registered 20 wins in the year and also double-digit conference wins.
Earning the No. 3 seed for the third time in program history (previously 2009 and 2014), Louisville has faced BYU once in program history. Louisville posted an 80-54 win over the Cougars on March 17, 2007, in Los Angeles. Angel McCoughtry scored a game-high 24 points, and Jazz CovingtonĀ added 14 in the victory.
Jude Schimmel will be playing in the NCAA tournament for the first time without out older sister Shoni who now plays for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream.
