Louisville’s Women Basketball Senior Jude Schimmel and Team Celebrate Tipoff Luncheon with Sold-out Crowd

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women’s basketball program celebrated its annual tipoff luncheon on Tuesday afternoon in front of a sold-out crowd of 700 at the Galt House’s Grand Ballroom.

Guests were introduced to each of the Cardinals’ five freshmen to begin the event before enjoying lunch. Radio play-by-play broadcaster and master of ceremonies Matt Andrews conducted a one-on-one interview with seniors Jude Schimmel, Bria Smith, Sara Hammond, Shawnta’ Dyer, and Sheronne Vails before introducing head coach Jeff Walz to a standing ovation.

Walz, the winningest coach in program history, introduced his staff, spoke about the makeup of this year’s team, and what fans can expect as well as some of Louisville’s goals in 2014-15.

The Cardinals are coming off their second 30-win season in program history, producing a 33-5 mark in which the group advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight. Louisville now has won at least 20 games in four-consecutive seasons. Along the way, the team set a school record for home victories with an 18-2 mark and a program-record 16 consecutive victories.

Louisville opens its 2014-15 campaign on the road at IUPUI on Nov. 14 in Indianapolis, Ind., before playing its home opener against UT Martin on Nov. 16 in the KFC Yum! Center.
