Maria Stacona (Warm Springs Tribe) Scores 9 Points as Eagles Fall to Mounties in La Grande

Box Score LA GRANDE, Ore. – Eastern Oregon’s Payton Parrish poured in 28 points while shooting 64 percent as the Mountaineers defeated Northwest University 79-64 tonight in Quinn Coliseum.

Parrish scored 18 of her game high 28 in the first half as the hot shooting (57 percent) Mounties would take a 47-38 lead into halftime. NU shot a respectable 42 percent, hitting 13 of 31 shots from the field, but manage to hit only 2 of 8 attempts from the 3-point line while EOU scored on 10 of 19 shots from beyond the arc.

Kristen Frey‘s 3-pointer 1:30 into the third quarter would close the gap to 49-41, but EOU would outscore the Eagles 9-2 over the next five minutes to stretch their lead to 15 points, 58-43. The period would end with EOU leading 66-50.

Two Eagle turnovers to start the final period would lead to EOU scores and a Payton Parrish 3-pointer would increase the Mountie lead to 71-52 with 7:39 remaining in the game. NU would cut the Eastern Oregon lead to ten twice, but each time, the Mounties would answer with a score to increase their lead. Hannah Carlson‘s free throw with 1:16 to go would make it 75-64, but that would be the end of the Eagles scoring for the night as EOU would close out the game for the win.

Miranda Langenhorst led all Northwest U (6-9, 2-4 CCC) scorers with 13 points and added 11 rebounds for a double-double. Hannah Carlson hit 5 of 9 shots for 11 points while teammates Mariah Stacona (Warm Springs Tribe) and Jordan Asher each dropped in 9 points for the Eagles. NU finished the night shooting 37 percent, but managed only 21 percent from the 3-point line with 4 for 19 shooting.

Eastern Oregon (8-6, 4-1 CCC) was led by Parrish’s 28 with Madeline Laan adding 18 points. Maloree Moss and Nikki Osborne each scored 10 points for the Mountaineers with Moss also grabbing 10 rebounds. EOU held a 41-34 margin in the rebounding column.

The Eagles move on to Caldwell for a 4:30 p.m. meeting with the College of Idaho on Thursday, Dec. 31.
