CALDWELL, Idaho – A big fourth quarter run by Northwest U helped propel the Eagles to a come from behind, 75-70, conference victory over the College of Idaho tonight in the J.A. Albertson Center.
Trailing 50-48 at the end of the third quarter, NU’s Jordan Asher would tie the score at 50-50 seventeen seconds into the final quarter. Mariah Stacona‘s 3-pointer at 9:25 would give the Eagles a 52-50 lead and spark a 14-2 run as Hannah Carlson‘s free throw would give NU a 66-54 lead with 5:25 left in the game. The Eagles would hold off a comeback attempt by the Yotes late in the game with Stacona hitting a timely trey and Paige Burson laying the ball in with 55 seconds to go to help put away the game.
The Yotes built an 8 point lead in the third quarter, but the Eagle defense forced 12 second half turnovers to aid in their comeback.
Northwest U (7-9, 3-4 CCC) was led by Mariah Stacona‘s 16 points which included two key 3-pointers late in the game. Stacona also had a game high 8 assists. Jordan Asher scored 15 points and handed out 5 assists while Kristen Frey scored 13 points. After shooting just 32 percent in the first half, NU heated up and hit 17 of 32 shots for 53 percent.
Petra Lumpert led the College of Idaho (3-9, 2-4 CCC) with 18 points and 7 assists. Madison Pilster contributed 16 points and Haylee Burnham scored 13 points and had 4 assists. C of I won the rebounding battle with a 40-37 margin. C of I was held to 37 percent shooting in the second half, 39 percent for the game.
Said Coach Crawford after the game, “I’m really happy with the way that we responded from last night’s loss. It was a great team win today. There were a lot of contributions from a lot of people tonight. It’s great to get a conference win on the road.”
