Marian University in Fond du Lac, WI continues to provide native student-athletes opportunities to succeed. The men’s lacrosse team is preparing for their home opener February 22, 2020 versus Northland College, Ashland, WI. The team is coming off a 12-5 season last spring and looking forward to another fine season.
Masen Powless is a 6’3, sophomore lacrosse player at Marian University, Fond du Lac, WI. He is the son of Matt Powless (Oneida) and Holly Powless of Suamico, WI.
“My values are being true to myself and others,” said Masen. “I believe hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard. Family always comes first.”
“My parents taught me at a young age that you can’t be great at anything without working for it,” said Masen. “My little brother Hayden Powless and I are always in our backyard shooting around going 1v1. Pushing each other to the hardest in pickup games. My best friend Elijah Gash and I worked with each other through high school and one year in college. We learned to embrace the grind and always go the extra mile.”
Bob Leary, head lacrosse coach at Marian University, said: “Masen has been a welcomed addition to the Marian Lacrosse community. He has been a model student, and his GPA is among the highest on a very successful academic team.”
“Masen is just beginning to scratch his athletic potential. We feel like he will have a legitimate chance to become an Iroquois Nationals member in the next round of tryouts.
He asks questions and he is hungry to learn and improve. We would take a Masen Powless-type of player anytime!,” added Coach Leary.
“I have always been an underdog,” said Masen. “People overlook me and I do my best to make them notice me. To know who I am and what I can do and am about.”
“My accomplishments are I was all conference senior year for defense,” said Masen. “I got defensive most improved senior year for my team. I made it to college playing the sport I love.”
“For any up and coming athletes I would tell them to get in the weight room,” said Masen. “Work on your game outside of practice and research what you want to be have that idol you look up to and want to play like. Setting goals is super important it makes you work harder and once you reach that goal it feels great and you set another one.”
