(Denton, Texasa) – North Texas head football coach Seth Littrell officially named Alabama transfer quarterback Alec Morris the Mean Green’s starter heading into their season-opener at SMU on Saturday.
Morris competed with a host of players for the job throughout spring practice and fall camp before finally beating out freshman Mason Fine (Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma)for the job. Fine is listed as UNT’s top backup on UNT’s depth chart for its season-opener against SMU, which you can see here: 4070_001
– Littrell is comfortable playing Fine, if it becomes necessary. UNT’s coaching staff will sit down and talk with Fine and his family if a circumstance comes up later in the year, where he might have to burn his redshirt for a handful of games.
