St. LOUIS — Missouri State redshirt freshman guard Brice Calip (Mvskoke Creek) was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week in women’s basketball on Monday after her performances in a pair of road wins for the Lady Bears.
Calip averaged 13 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals per game, shooting 63 percent overall and 60 percent from 3-point land at Illinois State and Bradley.
Friday at Illinois State, Calip shot 4-for-7 overall and 2-for-4 from long range, finishing with 10 points, three assists, two rebounds and a blocked shot against an ISU defense that ranks among the top eight nationally in points allowed and field goal percentage.
Sunday, the Sapulpa, Okla., native shot 6-for-9 from the floor for a career-high 16 points, with six boards, two assists and three steals in a victory at Bradley.
The Lady Bears (9-8, 5-1 MVC) are off to their best league start since 2011, and are back at JQH Arena for two games this weekend, beginning with a 7 p.m. Friday contest against Valparaiso.
