Native Athletes Help Lead Coffeyville CC to a #17 NJCAA-Ranking with a 78-47 Defeat of NEO

Coffeyville, Kan. – The 18th-ranked Coffeyville Community College Red Raven Women’s Basketball Team finished off their run through the Gillham’s Classic hosted over the weekend in Coffeyville with a 78-47 defeat of the Lady Norsemen of NEO.  With the victory, the Red Ravens’ overall record moves to 5-0 on the season.

The Red Ravens dominated the Lady Norsemen outscoring them in all four quarters in earning the 78-47 victory.  Coffeyville was especially hot in the second quarter outscoring NEO 28-9 in the quarter.

Game leaders for Coffeyville included sophomore Kyleigh Ortiz (Navajo/Cherokee) with 14 points, sophomore Bailey Layman (Choctaw/Creek) with 13 points and 6 rebounds, sophomore Tetona Woods-Blackowl (Cheyenne/Arapaho) with 11 points and 7 assists, and sophomore Jordan Snyder (Omaha Tribe) with 11 points and 7 rebounds.

On Monday after the game, the newest NJCAA Women’s Division I rankings (Week #1) were released and the Red Ravens with their early season 5-0 record moved up one spot to #17.  The full NJCAA Women’s Div I rankings can be viewed by clicking HERE.

The newly minted #17 Red Ravens will return to action on Wednesday, November 15th with a trip to Miami Oklahoma for a rematch against the Lady Norsemen of NEO.  Tip-off in Miami is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
