Thompson, the son of former OU quarterback Charles Thompson, currently plays high school ball at Southmoore in Moore, Okla., a town less than a 20-minute drive from the OU campus in Norman. Thompson’s brother Kendal also played for the Sooners before transferring to Utah.
“Coach (Tom) Herman and I talk every other day,” Thompson told 247Sports. “We have a really good relationship. I talk to Coach (Tim) Beck almost every day. They’ve done a good job recruiting me. I’ve been down there a few times recently, and I really like it.”
Thompson garnered over 3,300 all-purpose yards in his junior year at Southmoore. He tossed 28 touchdowns and scored 14 more on the ground.
Thompson chose Texas over North Carolina and Miami and is ranked No. 123 in the ESPN300 class of 2018. He will join Longhorns quarterbacks Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger next spring.
