PHILADELPHIA – The Maxwell Football Club announced Monday that North Texas quarterback Mason Fine (Cherokee Nation) has been named to the watch list for the 82nd annual Maxwell Award.
The Maxwell Award, named in honor of Robert W. “Tiny” Maxwell, has been given to America’s College Player of the Year since 1937. Maxwell’s contributions to the game of football were extensive, including time as a player, a sportswriter and an official.
Fine, a Peggs, Oklahoma, native, set single-season program records in passing yards (4,052), passing touchdowns (31), completions (324) and pass attempts (511) on his way to C-USA Offensive Player of the Year honors. He had 17 touchdowns of 20-yards or more, six of which went for 50-plus yards.

Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award will be announced October 29, 2018, while the three finalists will be unveiled November 19, 2018. The winner of the 2018 Maxwell Award will be announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show held on December 6, 2018. The formal presentation of this award will be made at the Maxwell Football Club Awards Gala hosted by Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City on March 8, 2019.
