(Oklahoma City, OK) – In a press release by the NBA’s Oklahoma City Thunder basketball team, four Thunder players hosted a fit clinic for nearly 50 kids from the Kickapoo Tribe of Oklahoma.
Leading the fit camp was NBA star Russell Westbrook who got some assistance from teammates Reggie Jackson, Steven Adams and Andre Roberson.
The kids were broken up into groups and each NBA player was setup at a station that involved basketball skills, nutrition information and exercise techniques. The students that attended were mainly from middle school age and in the release the Thunder organization stated, “At that age, exercise and proper nutrition are of the utmost importance, but it was also a great chance for the kids to learn the game of basketball from professionals.”
An eighth grade student named Dylan said, “It was a really good experience, meet all of the guys, it was really cool…They were interactive.”
The highlight of the day for the kids from the Kickapoo tribe was a game of knockout played by NBA stars that came down to Russell Westbrook and Andre Roberson with Andre finally knocking out Westbrook.
At the end of the day, Westbrook was about to leave the gym but stopped quickly to hand a wristband to one of the participants and then he received one in return that has “Kickapoo Nation” on it.
