Oklahoma softball transfer Olivia Rains (Cherokee) will join the 2022 Texas Tech roster

LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech softball head coach Sami Ward has announced the signing of two-time All-Mountain West earner Kendall Fritz and 2021 national champion Olivia Rains (Cherokee) to the 2022 Red Raider roster.
 
“We are so excited to have Kendall and Olivia in Lubbock with us,” said Ward. “We feel like we have made our program more competitive by adding these two talented pitchers and expect them both to help us immediately.”
 
“Kendall and Olivia’s experience and knowledge will help with developing our young staff,” said Texas Tech assistant coach Brittany Miller. “Their abilities complement each other and the other pitchers we already have in our bullpen. We are excited to get them on campus this fall.”

RHP | Sophomore | Pryor, Okla. | OklahomaRains comes to Tech after helping Oklahoma to the 2021 National Championship title in her first full season with the Sooners. During her time in Norman, she tallied 29 total appearances with six starts and 56.1 innings of work. Rains helped combine for 12 of Oklahoma’s 23 shutouts, the most of any pitcher on the staff. She held her opponents to below .200 batting average in each of her seasons with a combined ERA of 2.24. Rains scattered just nine hits in the 2021 season. The Pryor, Oklahoma native will join the Red Raiders with three years of athletic eligibility remaining.

“Olivia is a national champion with WCWS playing experience. She has a great champion mindset. Her competitiveness and experience will help our young staff.”

Fritz and Rains provide valuable experience to a young Texas Tech bullpen which features three freshmen, two sophomores, two juniors and one senior.
