TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts athletic department will retire women’s basketball All-American, Kevi Luper’s jersey Saturday, as part of the Hall of Fame Weekend festivities. Luper will be inducted into the Hall of Fame Saturday morning with her jersey being retired at halftime of Saturday’s women’s basketball game.
One of five All-Americans in program history, Luper’s name is all over the ORU women’s basketball record book. During her time wearing the No. 15 jersey, Luper was named a two-time AP All-American, three-time Summit League Player of the Year, led NCAA Division I in scoring and steals during the 2010-11 season and led the Golden Eagles to the 2013 NCAA Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee. She represented the USA at the 2012 Pan Am games.
“As an athletic program anytime a former student-athletes jersey is retired, it is a momentous occasion,” Athletic Director Mike Carter said. “Kevi is an ORU great and now Hall of Famer and is more than deserving to have her jersey hanging in the Mabee Center for years to come.
Luper is the first and the only NCAA Division I men’s or women’s basketball player to ever lead the nation in scoring and steals in the same season. Luper is also one of eight student-athletes to have 1000-plus points and 200-plus steals in their career.
During her senior season, Luper was named Southland Conference Tournament MVP, First team All-Southland Conference selection, five time Southland Conference player of the week and a Senior CLASS Award finalist.
